PART A The Myth of Sisyphus” Please respond to the following: 1. what Camus means by stating that life is absurd. Explain your agreement or disagreement with his position. PLEASE RESPOND TO CLASSMATE DISCUSSION WHETHER YOU AGREE OR NOT & A DETAILED WHY: I think Camus was demonstrating that life is absurd because in the myth of Sisyphus the Gods punished him for all eternity to roll a rock up a mountain only to have it roll back down to the bottom when he reaches the top. Camus thinks this punishment is similar to human existence that we struggle with and as long as you can reconcile that this is the meaning of your life than you can find happiness in it. You can choose to take a leap of faith or reconcile that this is your existence. I agree with him that you can be happy in life choosing either option. If you choose to have faith that there is a master plan than you reconcile with that fact and live your life with this belief. If you choose to not believe there is a master plan than you recognize that this is what you believe and you continue to live you life and find happiness in tangible things.

A world that has a meaning that you can prove and see I think would satisfy Camus. The answer to the questions we all ask which are why are we here, what is our purpose. Knowing the meaning of life would satisfy Camus and this analogy he uses through this myth is a brilliant illustration to me.

PART B “The Book of Job and the Human Search for Meaning” Please respond to the following: 1. Consider the trials and tribulations Job suffered even though he had not sinned and was not being punished. Discuss your agreement or disagreement with Job’s suffering and his response to continued faith in God despite the circumstances. Provide reasons and examples to support your view. 2. Respond to Frankl’s claim that “freedom is but the negative aspect of the whole phenomenon whose positive aspect is responsibility.” Provide reasons and examples to support your view.

PLEASE RESPOND TO CLASSMATE DISCUSSION WHETHER YOU AGREE OR NOT & A DETAILED WHY: In the book of Job it is about a story where Satan and God have a conversation about Job being blessed and Satan believes he is only blessed because God has blessed him with a good life, so Satan decides to challenge him by making horrible things happen to Job. If Satan makes bad things happen to Job, Job will in turn curse God instead of praising him. God agrees to let Satan test Job but stops at taking Jobs life in the process. Job receives four messages, his livestock, servants, and ten children have all died due to invaders or some sort of natural catastrophes. Job’s wife encourages Job to curse God for all these things and give up on life but Job refuses to. Three friends of Job come and make Job feel even worse by questioning Job. Eventually Job gets impatient with God and starts to question why God has done these things to him when he has been a good and faithful person. I think this story is simply to show that even the faithful to God have bad things happen to them. When all is said and done, no I do not agree with testing a human beings life just to see if they will remain faithful, I do agree that this displays a lesson.

Frankl is talking about looking at the positive instead of focusing on the negative and that freedom is the negative side of the positive side of responsibility in other words you have to live responsibly in order to have true freedom. Everybody has a choice no the freedom to choose to be positive/negative or let things effect them in a negative or positive way. One needs to live their freedom and live it responsibly. The more you push yourself to learn the better equipped you are to have freedom but freedom also comes with responsibility.
